In this brief section, we venture to describe our church to the best we can by observation. It is for the benefit of the one whom we trust God will make known as our new pastor and will hopefully serve other candidates trying to discern God’s will for themselves. This by no means speaks for every individual and is not intended to supplement any doctrinal statements. It is simply to introduce ourselves just a bit more personally.
If you look around our congregation on a given Sunday morning, there are usually 200+ people in attendance. From youth to elderly, all age groups are represented well and are often intermingled with one another. Some of those in attendance have wealth and some have little, varying greatly in experience and background. The attire ranges from jeans, to khaki, to more formal. We are brothers and sisters in Christ and there is no distinction given to race/ethnicity other than numbers which are reflective of population groups in our area. Our worship music usually consists of a mixture of traditional and contemporary styles and may employ various instruments and talent as the need arises. Having been encouraged to worship honestly before the Lord in any manner befitting Scripture, many simply do so in song, but it is not uncommon to see hands raised. During the message, many individuals have God’s Word open and pen in hand as they listen and study using their preferred translation. You would likely call our style neither very traditional nor ultra trendy.
Our mission is to glorify God, reach the lost, disciple believers, and build God’s kingdom through the love and compassion of Jesus Christ. This is evident in many ways including an active youth program, a vibrant group of senior adults, and numerous other activities in our community. Although we have an unequivocal alliance with the SBC, being a Baptist is not our main goal; our goal is to be about the Lord’s business and to love as He does. We are not afraid to cross denominational lines where our other brothers and sisters are laboring toward the same goal. We are confident a church can be exciting and thrive without compromising the truth of God’s Word.
Regarding the better known ‘ISMs’ sometimes present in Baptist congregations, we would not use any of the following to describe us as a whole: Legalism, Calvinism, Theological-Liberalism, and Cessation-ism. Rather, we stand before Him by grace, we believe He desires all to be saved, we believe His Word is trustworthy, and He empowers those that believe.
